{"id":18538,"date":"2018-03-06T11:53:37","date_gmt":"2018-03-06T11:53:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bfpg.co.uk\/?p=18538"},"modified":"2018-06-21T12:17:20","modified_gmt":"2018-06-21T12:17:20","slug":"event-wales-life-brexit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bfpg.co.uk\/2018\/03\/event-wales-life-brexit\/","title":{"rendered":"Life After Brexit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row css_animation=&#8221;&#8221; row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; use_row_as_full_screen_section=&#8221;no&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; angled_section=&#8221;no&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; background_image_as_pattern=&#8221;without_pattern&#8221;][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>On Friday 9<sup>th<\/sup> March, the British Foreign Policy Group co-hosted the event,\u00a0<strong><em>\u201cLife in Wales After Brexit\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>in partnership with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.southwales.ac.uk\/about\/schools-and-colleges\/global-choices\/global-choices-talking-points\/\">University of South Wales\u2019 Global Choices<\/a>\u00a0programme and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/capital-law.co.uk\/\">Capital Law<\/a>\u00a0 at the University of South Wales\u2019 Cardiff Campus.<\/p>\n<p>This event was the 4<sup>th<\/sup> in the\u00a0BFPG\u2019s\u00a0<em>National Engagement Programme,\u00a0<\/em>a nationwide series of events which aim to generate greater public discussion about the UK\u2019s international position and choices.<\/p>\n<p>A panel of speakers from across the UK together was joined by a diverse audience to address particular issues around Brexit and Cardiff and Wales\u2019s international prosperity, influence, and security and why\/how that affects us in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>An initial lecture given by Lord Kerr of Kinlochard, former British Ambassador to the EU, and architect of Article 50, looking at the risks that Brexit posed to the UK and his thoughts on how to mitigate them.<\/p>\n<p>This was then followed by a panel of local and national figures including Ian Price, Director at CBI Wales, Liane Saunders, Strategy Director, Foreign &amp; Commonwealth Office, Ellen Jones: President of NUS Wales and Steve Thomas, Chief Executive of the Wales Local Government Association,who all discussed the implications of Brexit in Wales and what aspects of Wales\u2019 international engagements could be improved on to make for a more prosperous post-Brexit Wales.<\/p>\n<p>One of the areas in which the panel agreed more could be done was around Welsh soft power. Liane mentioned how &#8220;Wales has huge creativity and imagination- it&#8217;s known for its arts as well as sciences.
