On Monday, 6th April, the British Foreign Policy Group hosted Bruno Ma\u00e7\u00e3es and Tom Holland for a virtual launch of Bruno’s keenly awaited new book, ‘History Has Begun: the Dawn of a New America.’ Ma\u00e7\u00e3es offers a compelling perspective on America’s past and future, arguing that America is becoming a new global civilisation, distinct and separate in identity from its European origins. The lively discussion covered America’s unique global role, as well as the impact of American identity on shifting power dynamics between America, Europe and China as the COVID-19 crisis continues to shape the geopolitical landscape.<\/p>\n

Bruno Ma\u00e7\u00e3es<\/strong>\u00a0is a non-resident senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, a senior advisor at Flint Global and a senior fellow at Renmin University of China. Formerly Portugal\u2019s Europe minister (2013\u201315), he has been a regular commentator for CNN, the BBC and Al Jazeera, and has written for the\u00a0Financial Times,\u00a0The Guardian\u00a0and\u00a0Foreign Affairs. He is the author of\u00a0Belt and Road<\/em>, also published by Hurst, and\u00a0The Dawn of Eurasia<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Tom Holland\u00a0<\/strong>is an award-winning historian, author and broadcaster. His history books have garnered wide acclaim, and include, Dominion: The Making of the Western Mind<\/em>, Millennium: The End of the World and the Forging of Christendom<\/em>, and Rubicon: The Triumph and the Tragedy of the Roman Republic<\/em>.<\/p>\n
